Studio Baignade Urbaine

Our studio is an innovative company specialized in the design and development of urban bathing facilities: large-scale harbor baths, saunas, small-scale local bathing facilities, mixed-use floating pontoons for bathing and sailing... We offer a wide range of concepts directly inspired by our Scandinavian experience (Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm). More broadly, our projects are part of a wider movement to reinvent the city, focusing on the need to reconnect with the surrounding natural environment, encourage residents to be active and improve the quality of public spaces.

We combine academic excellence with freedom of design to create unique urban bathing facilities.

Clément BRUN

With a multidisciplinary background, including a Master's degree in sports governance (University of Bordeaux) and a second Master's degree in urban planning (École d'Urbanisme de Paris), my current research is based on a combination of fields that correspond to me: sociology of practices, architecture and the production of urban public spaces.

Since 2021, I am doing a PhD thesis about urban bathing in Copenhagen. On one hand, I am closely examining the harbour baths' architecture and establishing an accurate typology of the bathing facilities. On the other hand, I am scrutinizing the uses of the baths in both summer and winter, adopting a more ethnographic approach to the practice of bathing. In addition to investigating the convergence between designed space and space experienced by its inhabitants, the aim of this PhD is to understand how the organisation of a port is rewritten after it has been opened up to a practice such as urban bathing.

"Reciprocally, the baths and bathing interact: when the first embodies new ways of experiencing the city, the second questions the Copenhagen harbor's rules of governance".
