Paris and its metropolitan area are an ideal testing ground for Studio Baignade Urbaine. Its economic heartland stretches around several rivers (the Marne, the Bièvre), one river (the Seine) and numerous canals (the Ourcq, Saint-Martin, etc.) of varying degrees of urbanity and natural beauty.

In some cases, swimming is not at the very centre of the project. The focus is on the link between the city and nature, to offer an ecological vision of the waterfront. Here you will find many contrasting examples of developments along these waterways. With their different designs, they are proof that geographical location is inextricably linked to the choice of development for a local authority.

Finally, after exploring the link between bathing and urban regeneration, we offer a final set of examples showing that this leisure activity can also give rise to a new economic activity, notably through the creation of private spas or the commercial operation of bathing clubs.

Below Notre-Dame de Paris under reconstruction (Paris 5th): a bath with two pools blends in with a project to restore the quayside to its natural state. The setting is both intimate and sports-oriented.

Boulogne-Billancourt (92): a safe, family-friendly swimming area on the edge of the Seine. Several pools offer families and the interested a great place to swim.

A few steps from the Marais (Paris 4th): an open-air bath where you can bathe and relax alongside the water. Many tourists come here, so there are kiosks for food and drink.

In the Bras de Grenelle (Paris 15th arrondissement): a floating pontoon with bar, swimming area and boat landing stage. Human activities extend right out over the water.

Canal Saint-Martin (Paris 10e): a renaturalised area that is becoming the lungs of the city. The wooden terraces that now cross the canal are the place to come for a rest or a swim.

Saint-Maur-des-Fossés (94): a town on the shores of the Marne, a minimalist wooden site open onto the river for bathing and promenades. The bath, designed for families, forms an indoor pool bordered by wide sunny decks.

Courbevoie (92): a new promenade along the quays of the Seine. A harbour has been created to link the town with the river, creating a soothing atmosphere.

Se baigner dans Paris centre à l'Île-Saint-Louis coupé, un site de baignade offre un cadre idyllique avec des plages qui descendent dans l'eau, possible de nager entre les deux rives.

Paris centre: in one of the channels of the Île-Saint-Louis no longer navigable, a bathing site offers an idyllic setting for swimming in Paris. Beaches that go down step by step into the water... You can swim between the two sides of the river.

Nouveau Canal Saint-Martin repensé pour rapprocher les parisiens de l'eau avec promenade en bois et pontons publics.

Port de l'Arsenal (Paris 11th): at its southern end, the canal has been redesigned to bring Parisians closer to the water. The houseboats have disappeared, making space for a wooden promenade and public pontoons.

Baignade au Quai de la Rapée à Paris sur de grandes plages en bois clair qui offre un lieu de rencontre et de repos en bord de Seine.

Quai de la Rapée (Paris 11): wide wooden piers provide a meeting place on the riverfront of the Seine. You can swim freely in the water, while being supervised by lifeguards. The link with the city is vital to the success of the bathing experience.

Project for a bathing club on the banks of the Seine. The facility is completely floating. It has a bar and a sauna for winter swimming. People swim in a secure pool in the middle of the complex. The club can be used for parties, relaxation or sports training. It can be reached from the city or by boat.

A variant of the club without the sauna. As with the first, the bar offers a place to relax alongside the water, with sun loungers, drinks service and live music. It can be reached from the city or by boat.

An even simpler version of the club, with a simple pool protected from the river by the club building. The amenities are the same: sauna and bar where you can enjoy a drink alongside the water.
